Best Treatment For Adenomyosis
The condition adenomyosis occurs when the tissue inside the uterus grows into the uterine wall. It can be managed using painkillers, hormonal treatments, or therapies.
However, if the pain becomes unbearable, doctors might suggest a hysterectomy. If your adenomyosis is at a severe stage, hysterectomy is your only option for treatment. Hysterectomy is one of the most effective surgical procedures to cure adenomyosis.

Adenomyosis Diagnosis and Treatment
Adenomyosis treatment
A doctor will determine the appropriate treatment for adenomyosis based on the severity of the condition, the woman's age, and her desire for pregnancy. Women with mild symptoms may not require any specific treatment, but in severe cases, surgery may be required.
Non-surgical treatment-
Medications such as painkillers, hormonal therapy, and anti-inflammatory drugs are used to manage the symptoms temporarily.
Painkillers- Pain associated with adenomyosis can be relieved with this medication.
Hormonal therapy- Birth control pills or progesterone-releasing intrauterine devices are the first-line treatment for adenomyosis.
As non-surgical treatment only manages pain and other symptoms, surgery is necessary for severe cases and for a complete cure of adenomyosis.
Surgical treatment-
Symptoms like abnormal vaginal bleeding, heavy menstrual bleeding, and painful intercourse are signs of severe adenomyosis, and doctors recommend surgery. The only surgical treatment option for adenomyosis is a hysterectomy (uterus removal). A hysterectomy involves removing the uterus and female reproductive organs, including the ovaries, the cervix, and the fallopian tube. There are two ways to perform a hysterectomy-
Open-cut hysterectomy- A traditional method of removing the uterus involves cuts and stitches. The doctor makes a 6-8 inch long incision through which the uterus and other reproductive organs, if necessary, are removed. Once the surgery is complete, the doctor stitches the site. This procedure typically takes two to three days to recover from.
Laparoscopic hysterectomy- A laparoscope is inserted through keyhole incisions in the lower abdomen. Surgical tools are inserted through the incisions and the uterus is removed. This procedure takes one day to complete.
Preparation of Surgery
To minimise the risks associated with surgery, your gynaecologist may suggest these tips:
Avoid smoking and alcohol- Anaesthesia-related complications may be increased by smoking and drinking alcohol before the surgery.
Discuss your medical history with your doctor- Before surgery, talk to your doctor about any medications you are taking. Any underlying health condition can make surgery more risky and more complicated.
Diet modification- Nutrition and proteins should be included in your diet, and you should avoid skipping meals. Drink plenty of water by including vegetable broth, soups, or infused water. Avoid oily and fleshy foods as much as possible.
Physical and mental well-being- To calm your nerves, practice some meditation and yoga before undergoing surgery.
Other than these tips, it is extremely important to eat light, relax, and sleep well before the surgery.
Complications of Surgery
Adenomyosis is also associated with certain risks and complications, just like any other treatment.
Anaesthesia-related side effects.
As a result of hormonal therapy, fatigue, weight gain, hot flashes, and memory loss may occur.
There is a risk of blood clots in the legs or lungs.
The surrounding areas, such as the bladder, blood vessels, and nerves, are damaged.
Blood transfusions and blood loss are more likely to occur during surgical treatment.
Women also experience some emotional side effects after the treatment, such as depression, anxiety, and mood swings.
