Diagnosis of Miscarriage

Blood test - Human gonadotropin (hCG) is a pregnancy hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy. High levels of hCG indicate a successful pregnancy, but abnormal changes can indicate miscarriage.

Pelvic Exam - Usually, this test is prescribed to check for thinning or openings in the cervix.

Ultrasound- An ultrasound produces images of the internal structure of your body, which can be used to diagnose a miscarriage and to guide treatment.

Test Tissue - As women usually pass vaginal tissue during miscarriage, doctors inoculate these tissues to prevent miscarriage.

Chromosomal Test - To check for chromosomal abnormalities in women who have had one or two miscarriages, this test is prescribed.

Treatment of Miscarriage- The uterus may expel all the foetal tissues in case of a complete miscarriage. A doctor may recommend removing pregnancy tissues with medication or surgery, depending on the severity of the condition, if the body does not remove all pregnancy tissues.

Medications - Misoprostol and ibuprofen are two effective medicines that stimulate the uterus to expel pregnancy tissue and placenta if you miscarried before 10 weeks of pregnancy. In addition to relieving cramps, nausea, vomiting and chills, they also reduce cramps, nausea, vomiting and chills. You may experience heavy bleeding after taking them, which indicates that the medicine was effective.

Surgical Treatment - When a miscarriage occurs in the later weeks, surgery is quite effective. Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a surgery performed to remove pregnancy tissue from the birth canal. After treating the cervix with methotrexate, the surgeon uses a curette to remove all of the tissues and clear the uterine lining from the uterine cavity.

Different types of miscarriage and their treatment procedure

Complete miscarriage

The uterus itself expels all pregnancy tissues from the uterine cavity after a complete miscarriage, so doctors recommend an ultrasound to confirm that the pregnancy is over.

Missed miscarriage

Known also as a silent miscarriage, it occurs when the body cannot recognize a pregnancy loss and cannot expel the pregnant tissues. It is usually treated with medication or surgery after a missed miscarriage. In cases where medication does not work, the doctor will suggest surgery to expel the entire pregnancy tissues. An ultrasound is recommended to confirm a complete miscarriage if the medication does not work.

Recurrent miscarriage

In most cases, chromosomal abnormalities and hormonal disorders are associated with recurrent miscarriages. Depending on the condition, recurrent miscarriage treatment involves lifestyle changes, medication like low-dose aspirin, injectable blood thinners, and surgery.

Prevention of Miscarriage

A miscarriage caused by chromosomal abnormalities and hormonal disorders cannot be prevented, but you can make some lifestyle changes to increase your chances of conceiving.

  • You should eat a healthy diet that includes folic acid and calcium. Folic acid prevents neural tube defects during pregnancy. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables that provide vitamins, minerals, and fibre.

  • By exercising regularly you can boost your immunity and energy levels, regulate your metabolism, and improve your stamina. Regular exercise can also reduce the risks of pregnancy complications.

  • In pregnancy, smoking should be avoided since nicotine adversely affects the nervous system of the mother. However, some studies indicate that smoking during pregnancy can cause tissue damage to the foetus as well.

  • To reduce the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth, schedule regular prenatal checkups.

  • In pregnancy, limit caffeine consumption. However, too much caffeine can constrict the blood vessels in the placenta and the uterus, reducing blood supply to the foetus and inhibiting its growth.

  • To avoid complications and risks during pregnancy, discuss your medical history and medications.
