What are vaginal warts?
Warts on your vagina, cervix or vulva are small, skin-coloured or whitish bumps. In addition to bleeding, mucus-like discharge, and brown-coloured bumps near the vagina, vaginal warts are the most common sexually transmitted infection. Known by its scientific name condyloma acuminatum, vaginal warts are generally referred to as genital warts.
HPV6 and HPV 11, two strains of Human Papillomavirus, commonly result in genital warts. The risk of contracting HPV, including genital warts, applies to all individuals who are sexually active, as stated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In India, The Hans India reports that 2-25% of attendees at sexually transmitted disease clinics have reported female genital warts. According to Healthline, there are approximately 30 to 40 strains of HPV that specifically target the genitals; however, only a select few of these strains result in genital warts.

Vaginal wart diagnosis and treatment
Diagnosis of vaginal warts
Generally, external vaginal warts don't require any specific diagnostic tests, as gynaecologists examine them physically. However, internal warts may require the following tests:
Pap Test - The pap test is usually performed to screen for non-visible human papillomavirus (HPV) and to detect early signs and symptoms of cervical cancer.
Blood test - Usually, doctors recommend blood tests to check for other STDs associated with genital warts.
Biopsy- Generally, vaginal warts do not require a biopsy. It is recommended only when HPV and pap tests fail to diagnose the condition.
HPV test - Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is specifically recommended for women between 30 and 65 years of age.
Treatment for vaginal warts
Vaginal warts may be clear without treatment. However, appropriate treatment reduces the risk of spreading the virus. Vaginal warts can either be treated with medication or surgically.
Laser treatment - A laser beam of light is targeted to kill the causative agent of vaginal warts during this procedure, which is usually performed under local anaesthesia at a gynaecological clinic or hospital.
Topical treatments - In order to treat small vaginal warts that cannot be removed with laser treatment, medications may be prescribed. These medications include Trichloroacetic Acid, Podophyllin, and Podofilox (Condylox).
Expectations about Surgery
Treatment depends on the severity and size of the warts. Treatment usually involves medication, surgery, or home remedies.
There are several creams, ointments and solutions that doctors prescribe for asymptomatic and small-sized vaginal warts. Imiquimod cream is the most common cream used to treat vaginal warts since it boosts a person's immune system against them.
Doctors usually recommend cryotherapy (cryosurgery) to treat warts during pregnancy, which involves freezing warts with liquid nitrogen. A mild or moderate burning sensation may accompany the procedure.
Some home remedies for small-size warts include applying tea tree oil, applying garlic extract, and taking folate and B12 supplements.
Treatment outcomes for laser vaginal wart removal
In addition to providing long-term treatment for vaginal warts, laser vaginal wart removal also prevents complications such as infection.
Furthermore, certain high-risk strains of HPV can cause cervical cancer.
As a result, vaginal itching, redness, or discharge are relieved.
Because vaginal warts are contagious and can spread through skin-to-skin contact during sex, removing them is extremely important to protect your partner.
In addition, it is effective in treating symptoms such as genital itching, burning sensations, discomfort, and pain.
Warts and infections are also prevented from spreading to other parts of the uterine cavity, such as the cervix, vagina, and vulva.
