Phimosis
Adult Phimosis Treatment - Laser Surgery
It is characterised by the inability to retract the foreskin over the head of the penis. Although mild to moderate phimosis may be treated with medications and ointments, severe cases usually require surgical procedures such as circumcision.

What is Phimosis?
In phimosis, the foreskin, a retractable fold of skin on the top of the penis, cannot be pulled back over the penis's head, or the glans.
As long as phimosis does not cause you any pain or discomfort or interfere with your daily life, it cannot require surgery. However, severe cases may require surgeries such as circumcision or removal of the foreskin.
Phimosis usually occurs naturally in newborn babies and young boys. It usually loosens up on its own before adolescence, but in some cases, it can persist until adulthood.
Non-surgical options such as steroid creams may temporarily relieve phimosis symptoms, but surgery is generally considered the most effective and safe way to treat phimosis.
Diagnosis for Phimosis
In advance of phimosis surgery, your healthcare provider will likely perform a few simple tests and diagnostics to not only assess your overall health, but also uncover any underlying medical conditions that could require additional care and precautions during or after the procedure.
The diagnosis of phimosis usually begins with a routine physical examination. Your urologist will try to gently retract the skin covering the penile glans manually. If the foreskin cannot be retracted or the penile glans cannot be clearly seen, this indicates phimosis.
To better understand your condition, your urologist will likely ask you about your medical and surgical history, the symptoms you're experiencing, injuries to your penis, and questions regarding your sexual activity. Infections or injuries may also be detected by your urologist during penis examination.
Your urologist may try some non-surgical approaches such as steroid creams and ointments, but if they are ineffective, surgery may be the only option.
Surgical Treatment
Various foreskin-related conditions, including phimosis, can be treated with circumcision as a safe and effective urological procedure.
The foreskin is cut and removed from the penis in a circumcision procedure. There are primarily three ways to perform a circumcision procedure:
Open circumcision
The dorsal slit technique, also known as open circumcision, is a conventional method of circumcision in which the surgeon uses a scalpel or surgical scissors to make an incision along the foreskin's upper length to expose the penile glans.
Due to its invasive nature, open circumcision also carries a greater risk of complications and infection compared to laser or stapler circumcision.
Stapler circumcision
As opposed to laser circumcision, stapler circumcision is generally considered to be a more conventional procedure in which the surgeon cuts and removes the foreskin using a stapler device, a disposable surgical tool specially designed for circumcisions.
A stapler circumcision involves the surgeon placing the stapler device over the head of the penis and removing the foreskin in a quick motion. Once the foreskin is removed, the stapler device leaves behind a silicone ring to close off and minimise bleeding around the incision wound.
Laser circumcision
Among the most advanced and minimally invasive surgical procedures commonly performed and recommended by most urologists for circumcision surgery is laser circumcision.
The urologist uses a laser beam to precisely remove any excess foreskin from your penis without risking any deep cuts during laser circumcision.
Benefits of Surgery
Aside from treating phimosis effectively, circumcision also has a number of additional benefits. Among them are:
Reduced risk of penile cancer: Circumcised men are even less likely to develop penile cancer since it is a rare condition.
Prevention or treatment of foreskin-related problems: A multitude of foreskin-related conditions, such as foreskin infection, phimosis, and paraphimosis, can be treated through circumcision.
Easier penile hygiene: Taking off the foreskin makes it easier to wash away any excess bacteria or smegma that may have accumulated over your penile glans over time.
Decreased risk of Urinary Tract Infection:Circumcised men have a reduced risk of contracting urinary tract infections compared to uncircumcised men.
Decreased risk of Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Circumcised men, compared to uncircumcised men, have a lower risk of contracting STDs. However, protection is modest, and safe sexual practices are still important.
Best Way to Cure Phimosis
Phimosis laser surgery uses a highly focused beam of laser to precisely cut and remove excess foreskin. Laser surgery is generally considered to be the safest and most effective treatment for phimosis.
As a result of its precision and high operating temperatures, laser circumcision does not involve any risk of deep cuts or excessive bleeding.
As compared to conventional methods of circumcision, such as a stapler or open circumcision, phimosis laser surgery also offers shorter recovery times and better postoperative quality of life.
